#SoAatHome

Hone your skills with Professional Development training

‘It’s just brilliant that the #SoAatHome programme exists. Both the topics, the generosity of the speakers and for connecting with others interested in the same things.’

Our spring Professional Development series offers workshops on how to make and use book trailers, how to stay safe and secure online, how to market your work, and more.

These sessions are free to SoA members as an exclusive member benefit, and you can watch again in the Resources section of our website at any time.

Non-members can access our professional development sessions live or on catch-up, for £35. This charge ensures that we can continue to fully remunerate our expert speakers and provide these events free to members, whilst offering access to authors everywhere. The best value for full, free access to all SoA events and recordings, is to join the SoA.

Get the inside scoop with the SoA’s Industry Insiders

‘Lots of info very clearly presented and in a user-friendly manner. Very helpful to have several different authors on panel coming from different perspectives.’

This spring, we’ll be getting an inside look at poetry awards and competitions, and creative responses to the climate emergency, as part of our Industry Insider series.

Industry Insider sessions are free as part of your SoA membership and are available to watch back on the Resources section of our website whenever you need them.

We encourage Industry Insider attendees to consider donating between £5 and £15 to the Society of Authors’ Access Fund, to help us even the playing field for authors.

Say TGIF with Feel Good Friday events

I came away from today feeling refreshed and enthused. In all a wonderful hour! I wanted to say thank you! I shall definitely be attending more sessions in the future!’

Get that Friday feeling by joining one of our brilliant events as part of our Feel Good Friday series. Events will be confirmed in the coming weeks.

This March join artist and author Robert John to explore the fun of visual expression, while mindset coach Kelly Weekes will help you to make time to write in these #SoAatHome events.

Our online Feel-Good Friday events are free to SoA members and £5 for non-members. This small charge means we can continue bringing fun throughout 2025. Or better still, join the SoA and you can access all our events for free!

In April, we’ll be taking another literary walk through London with tour guide, Sam Jacobs on Friday 25 April. Book your place at the discounted ticket price of £9.50 (SoA members) and £19.50 (non-members). These hugely popular walks usually get booked up fast, so we encourage you to register as soon as you can.

Here’s what previous attendees have said about Sam’s tours:

‘It was a great chance to meet other SoA members and the tour was very informative! Sam was excellent and friendly.’

‘Sam, our guide, put the history of each street or building in context. It was clear to understand and hugely enjoyable. And I made friends!’

Be inspired by our new ‘How I write’ in-conversation series

It’s good because you get to meet a diverse group of authors with interesting backgrounds.’

Over the years, our #SoAatHome Afternoon Teas have included conversations with Bonnie Garmus, Julian Clary, Anni Domingo, Jacqueline Crooks, Elif Shafak, Val McDermid, Paterson Joseph, Jack Thorne, Joseph Coelho and many more.

With a revamped format, this March, we’ll be finding out how new SoA Fellow, Mary Beardand Lorraine Wilson write. Wilson, the 2024 ADCI Literary Prize winner will be in conversation with Penny Batchelor.

This series is free for everyone to enjoy.

We encourage donations of between £5 and £15 to the Society of Authors’ Access Fund, which helps provide authors with financial support for travel, subsistence, childcare or access needs for events, residencies, and retreats.

SoA in-person

Mix and mingle at the SoA’s Bedford Row Event Space

‘It was very welcoming and everyone was put at ease straight away. It was fascinating to hear about everyone’s different projects and experience.’

This spring, join us at our London HQ for some splendid in-person events.

Our next SoA Lates networking event takes place on Wednesday 19 March. Come and network with fellow members and SoA staff in our fabulous events space with drinks and nibbles.

Each attendee will get a 10–15-minute slot, priced at £30 for SoA members and £50 for non-members. This is a fraction of the usual cost of professional headshots.
