Join us for a special in-person event hosted by our Poetry and Spoken Word Group (PSWG), for the chance to meet and mingle with fellow PSWG members and SoA staff.

SoA in Person: SoA Lates events – £9.50 for SoA Members

As of February 2025, all SoA in-person social events, Lates, Coffee and Chat and member lunch events will be £9.50 for SoA members and £19.50 for non-members. Attendees will enjoy refreshments and the unique opportunity to network with SoA members and staff.

• 6pm – event starts
• 6.30pm – Welcome and introductions – Poetry and Spoken Word Group staff coordinators, Mathilde Zeeman and Sarah Baxter

About the Poetry and Spoken Word Group

The SoA’s Poetry and Spoken Word Group (PSWG) is a professional community for poets and spoken word artists. We come together to discuss issues affecting poets and the spoken word community, offer advice and support, and raise the profile of poetry and performance.

The Group is run by an elected Committee and a professional coordinator from the SoA. We welcome new and existing SoA members. Please email Mathilde Zeeman (PSWG coordinator) at MZeeman@societyofauthors.org if you would like to get involved and to be added to our newsletter.

The current Committee are Katrina Naomi (Chair), Rosaline Callaghan, Sophie Dumont, Isabel del Rio, Amanda Holiday, Alwyn Marriage and Michaela Morgan. Philip Gross is a coopted member of the Committee.

We run events to give members the opportunity to socialise, share experiences and learn about topics relevant to their craft.  We hold an Annual General Meeting, during which the Chair presents the committee’s annual report to the members, followed by a panel with experienced poets and spoken-word artists.

Accessibility

• Our Events space is located on the ground floor of our office, we have a wheelchair ramp round the side entrance of the building. We also have an accessible toilet by the side entrance.

Feeling unwell?

We recommend the following:

• Staying home if you’re feeling unwell or have flu-like symptoms
• Washing your hands when coming in from the outdoors and / or before touching your face
• Applying alcohol hand sanitiser (we will have these on site)
• We advise attendees to wear a face mask if they feel comfortable doing so
