Series 4 of the Advisory Clinic, sponsored ALCS, launches with a special bonus episode ‘Throw us a line’ on the Save Audio Drama campaign

Society of Authors’ Contract Advisors Theo Jones and Johanna Clarke return to our ears with Series 4 of the Advisory Clinic podcast. The series will begin with the bonus episode ‘Throw us a line’ that focuses on the Save Audio Drama Campaign (lead alongside the Writers Guild of Great Britain and Equity) which calls on the BBC to reconsider planned cuts to audio drama on Radio 3, the last platform for 90-minute full-length radio plays in the UK. Support the campaign and sign the petition addressed to Director-general Tim Davie here.

We are thrilled to be returning with a brand new series of our popular Advisory Clinic podcast!

Designed and curated as ever to cover the key topics, issues and challenges affecting authors today, series 4 of the podcast is brought to you with the kind sponsorship of the Authors’ Licensing & Collecting Society (ALCS).

With original episodes as well as live events including from the London Book Fair and the SoA@Home festival, the series is presented and produced by your hosts Johanna Clarke and Theo Jones and promises to feature a wealth and range of expert contributors and industry stakeholders alongside guidance and advice informed by the SoA’s core advisory services.

From subjects ranging from journalism, school visits for children’s authors and funding and from online streaming to artificial intelligence, the aim as ever is to equip writers with what it is they need to know in an engaging yet accessible and digestible format.

We hope that you will find something that will guide and empower you as you navigate the business side to the profession.

The Society of Authors Advisory Clinic began in April 2023 as a way to guide and empower authors of all types, whether they are members of the SoA or not. The past three series have covered topics ranging from self-publishing, negotiating contracts and AI – to better inform listeners on the creative industry landscape. New episodes will be released fortnightly from 3 March.

In January 2024, the SoA launched SoA Sounds, a podcast channel to host the Advisory Clinic and other podcasts, including limited series Adventures in Radio, hosted by playwright Barney Norris.

SoA Sounds is available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Amazon and more. You can listen to the new Advisory Clinic series, all past episodes and other podcasts here.
