Society of Authors Cymru

The national group for writers, illustrators and translators in Wales

The Society of Authors Cymru is a national group of the Society of Authors. Established in 2018, we provide professional advice and support for Welsh writers at all stages of their career, whether they write in English or Welsh.

We organise regular events and host socials across the year via a volunteer steering committee and local groups. Join us to meet authors across Wales, find out what’s happening in your area and be a part of your local Society of Authors community.

No group in your area? We can help you start your own (Resources for current local group organisers are here.)

Looking for a group near you but not yet an SoA member? You’re welcome to attend up to two local group meet-ups before we ask you to join the SoA to continue attending.

You can read about the SoA Cymru committee here. If you want to contact the committee, please contact Emma Boniwell, staff co-ordinator for SoA Cymru.

We held our first annual review and social meeting for members in Wales on Monday 13th October 2025. You can watch a very short film looking back at the work done by the Committee from September 2024 – September 2025 which we shared at the meeting.

Our communities

We have a growing number of local groups in Wales, connecting members at regular meet-ups and events. Run by members for members, local groups are a great way to meet fellow authors in your area, share knowledge, support and inspire one another. We currently have groups in Aberystwyth, Monmouth, and North Wales. Find out more here.

We want to help connect more members in their area and create local author communities across Wales. If there isn’t a local group in your area, we can help you get started.

We are keen to find out more about our members in Wales and what they would like from the Committee. If you haven’t yet completed our survey, please do so.

Staying in touch

We send a quarterly newsletter of upcoming events, opportunities and news to all members living in Wales. Please contact us if you would like to be added to the mailing list.

You can also opt to join our private Facebook group where SoA members can share their news, opportunities, events and post queries about their work.
