The Society of Authors (SoA), together with Strachey Trust, is excited to announce the launch of the Strachey Trust Grants, to add to our roster of grants for authors.
Grants of up to £500 are available to authors wishing to travel to a UK archive or collection to research manuscripts, for a specific literary project which has a strong likelihood of publication. ‘Manuscripts’ can refer to any letter, diary or other unpublished work relating to a person of note, including photographic or digitised copies.
The fund is available to authors who are UK resident or British citizens who wish to access UK-based archives or collections.
For more information, and to download the Strachey Trust Grant application form, see the Strachey Trust Grants page.
The Strachey Trust (charity number 263845) was founded by Michael Holroyd and Paul Levy. It promotes access to, and availability of, manuscripts of use to historians, biographers, and other researchers, as well as assisting in the tracing of copyright holders. Launched in 1972, the trust received the extensive literary archive of Lytton Strachey, donated by his sister-in-law Alix Strachey, and later inherited the literary copyrights of her and her husband James. The trust provides significant funding to the Location Register of English Literary Manuscripts and Letters and Writers, Artists and their Copyright Holders (WATCH).
