Management Committee elections

The 2025 nominations to stand for the SoA’s board of directors are open from 5 June to 15 July 2025.

With 4 seats available, this is your opportunity to increase the diversity of perspectives and influence the strategic direction of the Society of Authors (SoA) over the next few years by joining the Management Committee for a 3-year term.

We invite all members who have been Full Members for more than 6 months (joined before 1 January 2025) to stand – or to encourage fellow members to step forward – for election. Nominations can be submitted using the form below until 15 July 2025.

Election to the Management Committee is not based on literary merit. We welcome  members from all career stages, backgrounds and from all four UK nations to consider standing. We aspire to a range of perspectives and experience among our board of directors that reflects the diversity of our broad membership, so if you do not see yourself or your views already represented, please consider standing.

We actively encourage nominations from under-represented groups, including people of colour, those from diverse communities, people who identify as working-class, disabled or LGBTQ+.

We invite you to stand no matter your literary background and specialism. This year we are particularly interested in nominations from members with the following  skills: fundraising, finance, governance, public relations.

If we receive more than 4 nominations, elections will open on 16 September 2025 and close at midday on 22 October 2025.

New directors will take their seats at the 2024 AGM on 20 November 2025.

The elected members of the Management Committee are the legal directors of the Society of Authors. You can learn more about your responsibilities as a director on the Companies House website and about your corporate obligations on this page of guidance.

We have received more nominations than the four places available and so there will be an election.

Voting will then open in September (members will receive their ballot papers with the Autumn issue of The Author) and will close at noon on Wednesday 25 October 2023.

Newly-elected Management Committee members will take their seats at the 2023 AGM on Thursday 16 November.
