This page is designed to support the work done by the steering groups and committees who work to serve the interests of members in special interest groups and nation groups.
There are a wide range of documents from role descriptions to confidentiality agreements. Some are SoA wide policy, and some are designed as templates which can be adapted to suit the needs of the individual group. Other key documents include our Dignity and Respect policy, our Code of Conduct and Safeguarding policy.
New Committee/Steering group members will receive an induction explaining how to navigate this and while it may seem daunting, the aim is to help members and staff work together for the best interests of the group, and to keep the process as frictionless as possible. If you have any questions, please ask your staff co-ordinator, or the Head of Membership and Author Communities, Emma Boniwell.
Welcome to the SoA! Providing some context to the wider work of the SoA, which will be helpful to those working on a committee or steering group, the document can be found here.
Volunteer policies and guidelines to support your work as a committee member, including the confidentiality agreement and our expenses policy.
Template documents for role descriptions, a template Terms of Reference and a template timeline for a year’s activity.
You can see how the groups relate to the various sub committees and the Management Committee here.
