French Week 2025 | Feel Good Friday – Draw along with Sandrine Kao

Join French illustrator, Sandrine Kao as she leads a special love themed draw along session as part of our French Week celebrations. Learn how to draw some of Sandrine’s kawaii characters and poetic facet, which are deeply influenced by Asian culture.
For this session, you will need:
- Pencil and Paper
- Easer
- Coloured pencils
- Fine black felt pen (1mm but up to 0.4mm is fine)
- A black felt tip brush (optional)
- Fine coloured felt pens
- Masking tape (and if you have some at home: adhesive paper or round sticker)
- A cloth or tissue for blending
- Scissors and glue
French Week 2025
From 27 – 31 January 2025, we are running a week of events to mark the 60th anniversary of the Scott Moncrieff Prize for translations of books from French into English. This series of events kicks off our 2025 events programme.
Scott Moncrieff, is an annual £2,000 literary prize for French to English translation, awarded to one or more translators every year for a full-length work. Following the success of our Japan Week to celebrate our Translation Prizes, this year we shine a spotlight on French.
The week includes:
- 28 Jan | Industry Insider – 60 Years of the Scott Moncrieff: Celebrating Francophone African Writing
- 29 Jan | SoA in Person: Tour of The Institut français du Royaume-Uni (French Institute of the United Kingdom)
- 30 Jan | Afternoon Tea with Vineet Lal
- 14 Feb | Feel Good Friday – Draw along with Sandrine Kao

The Line-up
Sandrine Kao
Sandrine Kao is a French author and illustrator for young people, writing and illustrating picture books, comics and novels. Her last illustrated works published by Grasset Jeunesse won awards from the Bologna Ragazzi Award 2023 (special mention in the Comics early reader category for Après les vagues) and from the Jean-Hugues Malineau poetry young readers price (attributed to Rêveries).

Ambre Morvan
Ambre joined the SoA in October 2021. She advises members on publishing contracts and issues. She also works on the SoA’s public policy. Ambre is joint group coordinator for the Translators Association.
