Authors beware: scam alert

Scam warning
The Society of Authors has issued advice to help authors protect themselves against scammers.

We have received numerous reports recently of authors being sent scam emails, either pretending to be from the Society of Authors, or from other organisations promising marketing, festivals and much more.

To try to minimise the risk, we’re advising authors to remove email addresses from public websites, including your own and the SoA member directory. Instead, people who want to get in touch can use ‘Contact via the SoA’ option or signpost people to their own author website contact form.

We will pass on any enquiries received directly to the secure details we hold for you.

We will never send you emails from gmail accounts or any other email that does not have an official societyofauthors.org domain name.

Finally, if an offer looks too good to be true, contact our advisory team who will be happy to reassure you or tell you to steer well clear.

You can find more information in the guide below.
