The SoA Board

The SoA Board, also known as the Management Committee, is responsible for the direction of the SoA and makes all major policy and strategy decisions.
The Society of Authors welcomes four new members to its Management Committee (board) this November.

SoA members Kester Brewin, Lexie Elliott, Stella Oni and Stewart Hotston will join the board to support the organisation in our mission.

Kester Brewin is the author of seven works of non-fiction, a novel, and many short stories. As well as an experienced writer, he has been a union representative and is involved in exploring how AI is impacting work and society.

Lexie Elliott is the author of several psychological thrillers, including the Richard & Judy Book Club summer pick How to Kill Your Best Friend and is a passionate advocate for writers.

Stuart Hotston has published seven novels as well as numerous short stories. He also writes literary criticism and writes for numerous magazines and academic journals including the Hugo and Ignyte award-winning Nerds of a Feather.

Stella Oni is the author of the Detective Toks Ade mystery series and has a second novel due for publication in 2027. Alongside writing, she works as a senior technical writer in the technology sector and teaches crime writing as a guest tutor for the University of Cambridge.

The new board members will begin their terms following the SoA’s AGM in November 2026.

Welcoming the new Management Committee Members, Chair of the Management Committee, Vanessa Fox O’Loughlin, said:

We’re really looking forward to welcoming our new board members who, between them, bring a wealth of experience from a wide variety of areas. The next few years are crucial for our work at the SoA as we keep-up our pressure for authors’ rights under our new brand. Our four new members are talented, passionate, and hugely qualified for the task of advocating for the author community – we can’t wait for them to start.”

As there were four nominees and four available places, no election was required this year.
