Virtual Event
Free

Join the Writers of Essex on Saturday 5 September from 12pm for our next online meeting, ‘Poetry as Personal Practice: Writing for Creativity, Wellbeing and Healing with Michelle Heighway’.

Poet Michelle Heighway, a white woman with blonde hair and blue eyeliner in a purple dress, is holding a book whilst standing in front of inspirational slogans.

Poetry has the power to help us slow down, reconnect with ourselves and discover our authentic voice. In this interactive session, poet and filmmaker Michelle Heighway shares her personal creative practice and how poetry became a powerful tool for navigating grief, finding meaning and improving wellbeing.

Through breathing exercises, mindfulness, journaling, nature, photography and simple writing prompts, Michelle explores how creativity can help us enter a positive flow state, overcome creative blocks and transform everyday moments into poetry. Alongside readings from her collection Step Into My Flow, she shares practical techniques to inspire your own writing, ending with a gentle poetry exercise and the opportunity to reflect and share.

Whether you’re an experienced writer or just beginning, this session will leave you feeling inspired, connected and ready to write.
