The SoA is proud to present Educational Writers Group (EWG) Week, a weeklong celebration of the EWG’s 60th anniversary.
The EWG was established in 1964 to protect the interests of educational authors, lobby for adequate funding for books in schools, colleges and libraries and enable educational writers to network and socialise.
The EWG will host events from the 8 to 11 July to celebrate this milestone anniversary.
Online events
Monday 8 July – Industry Insider – Traditional vs Independent publishing in educational writing

Join us as Emily Guille-Marrett, co-author of over 80 books for Collins Education’s reading programme Big Cat Phonics for Letters and Sounds, interviews Habiba Desai, independent publisher and co-founder of Fox and Windmill, the UK’s first independent publishing company for British South Asian writers, and Marc Bloch, Director of Digital Transformation at Oxford University Press in the English Language Division.
Wednesday 10 July – Afternoon Tea with Ben Crystal

Grab a cuppa and get to know actor and writer, Ben Crystal. Ben will be in conversation with EWG Chair and ELT Author, Rhona Snelling to discuss his work and career and offer a glimpse into his creative routine.
Both online events are free, and spaces are unlimited. We are keen for writers across the spectrum of educational writing to join and get stuck in.
