Congratulations to all our members who were recognised in the 2024 New Year Honours List. Author, co-founder of the Women’s Prize for Fiction and SoA Fellow Kate Mosse was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for services to literature, women and charity. The No 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency author Sir Alexander McCall Smith was given a knighthood for services to literature, academia and charity. Rabbi and writer Jonathan Wittenberg was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to the Jewish community and interfaith relations.
We also congratulate all the other writers who made the list. Bestselling author Jilly Cooper has been made a dame for services to literature and charity. The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse illustrator and writer Charlie Mackesy has been awarded an OBE for art and literature. Wild Swans author Dr Jung Chang has been given an CBE for services to literature and history. Historian Professor Andrew Pettegree received a CBE for services to literature.
For services to creative industries, Creative Access co-founder Josie Dobrin was given an OBE.
