Michaela is an author and a poet who writes for all ages but is widely published for children. She comes from a non-literary background and is passionate about encouraging accessibility and enjoyment of poetry.
She lives in Edinburgh where she is currently working on her collected poems (to be published by Otter-Barrie Books). She has been published widely in anthologies and been responsible as editor and poet for the following collections:
- Words to Whisper Words to Shout – and other poems to perform (Belitha Press)
- Wonderland: Alice in Poetry (Macmillan)
- Reaching the Stars: Poems about Extraordinary Women and Girls (Macmillan)
All her collections have been shortlisted or won awards – including BBC Blue Peter Book Award, CLPE CLiPPA poetry award and the NSTA (teachers’ award)
She regularly visits schools and other institutions – to perform and run workshops. She was also a Writer in Residence at two prisons and has taken part in book and poetry festivals including the Edinburgh Book Festival and the Ledbury Poetry Festival. She is a longstanding Society of Authors member and has served on the CWIG (Children’s Writers and Illustrators) committee.
She is a National Poetry Day Ambassador.
