Alison Layland is a writer and literary translator who studied languages at Cambridge University. She first started writing short stories and flash fiction in Welsh when she moved to the Tanat Valley in 1997 and a language course led the way to creative writing classes. By then a fluent Welsh speaker, she won the short story competition at the National Eisteddfod in 2002, before going on to write novels in her own language, English.

Her novels Someone Else’s Conflict and Riverflow are both published by Honno Press. Her translations include (from French)The Colour of Dawn by award-winning Haitian author Yanick Lahens, and a number of bestselling historical novels from German.

As well as belonging to the SoA’s Translators Association she is an active member of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting, the Crime Writers Association, the Prime Writers group of authors and the Crime Cymru collective.
