Having worked for several years as a college lecturer in Creative Writing, English, ICT and Business Administration, I embarked on a new career late in life writing short stories, articles and puzzles for national children’s/teen magazines, including Shout, Animals and You, The Mandy and The Bunty. https://girlscomicsofyesterday.com/2016/08/tracy-j-holroyd-dct-writer/
In 2011, Hometown World published my first two books, the highly successful Children’s History of Manchester and Children’s History of Lancashire.
I then worked with my brother, author and illustrator David C Holroyd, on his expose, The Perfect Pair: The Enchanted Mirror (2012). Not long after its release, David’s story became a core text for the University of Salford’s BA(Hons) degree in English and Creative Writing. It was nominated for the People’s Book Prize 2013 and won Bronze for non-fiction in The Wishing Shelf Book Awards 2013. An extract from the book also won first prize in a prestigious Manchester Evening News literary competition.
The second book in The Perfect Pair Dolphin Trilogy, The Perfect Pair: The Mirror Cracks, was released in January 2014. The final book, The Perfect Pair: Shards from the Mirror, was released in February 2016, completing what many recognise as the most important work in UK dolphinaria history – ‘the Blackfish for dolphins’. It now features in a West Yorkshire museum exhibition. https://www.facesofsouthelmsall.com/blog/post/south-elmsall-stories-the-dolphinarium
I then collaborated with David on the Belinda Fellgate YA illustrated fantasy book series: Belinda Fellgate: HellCat (2020), Belinda Fellgate: The Kiss of Flauros (2020) and Belinda Fellgate: Malamok (2022).
Both David and I support animal rights activism and the education of young people in protecting our planet and the animals who live on it – topics we deal with in the Belinda Fellgate series. https://www.theperfectpairdolphintrilogy.com/david-and-tracy-talkin-belinda-fellgate.html
As for the future? Well, I want to teach compassion, save animals and protect the planet – and if I can do that via my writing, all the better!
