I’ve been writing professionally for over twenty years and have published more than seventy books for children.
I also work a lot in theatre. I am a lyricist and I write book for musicals. I’ve had the great pleasure to have a couple of my musicals (IMAGINARY, written with Stuart Matthew Price, and GROWL!, with Laurence Mark Wythe) commissioned and first performed by the National Youth Music Theatre. My musicals have been performed in the UK, the United States, Germany, Austria, Japan, South Korea and across the world.
My opera work includes original libretti as well as translations and adaptations, three to date for the Wexford Festival. I have been unofficial librettist for the vocal group I Fagiolini for thirty years and have written or translated songs, madrigal comedies, films and various other outrages for them.
My other writing includes scripts for films that accompany exhibitions at the National Archives, celebratory poems (including one for the 21st birthday of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment) and I have done many, many events at schools and libraries, as well as Shakespeare’s Globe and the National Maritime Museum.
