I was born and raised in Los Angeles, but have been a Londoner for most of my life.  I have worked as a theatre director, poet, and playwright and am currently writing fiction.

I have a BA in Theatre from UCLA and trained at LAMDA.  I directed my adaptation of Shakespeare’s The Rape of Lucrece at the Union Theatre (Time Out Critic’s Choice, Times Recommended), and directed and choreographed my own plays-with-dance Primaries (Young Vic Studio and Sadler’s Wells Lilian Baylis Theatre) and Machinations (The Place).  An artistic residency at Barts Hospital inspired my play INVALID, which was workshopped in a disused ward.  A 3 year writing residency followed, at the architecture and design practice BDP.  I was commissioned to write the Soho Theatre’s 40th anniversary play, sohostreets – a promenade through the streets and private premises of Soho – and wrote SAFE with the support of attachments at the National Theatre Studio.

Poetry commissions include three bespoke installations of Peoplepoem – a poem made of words and images collected from participants – (Stoke Newington Festival, East Dulwich Festival, London Architecture Biennale), Reading Room to Piazza, a walk in tribute (BD Magazine, in memory of Sir Colin St John Wilson), and Built Light, (Guerrilla Lighting at the Glasgow International Festival of Light).

The Firing: Eleanor Coade and her Remarkable Stone is my first novel – historical fiction about the extraordinary 18th century businesswoman and sculptor whose artificial stone was used by every leading architect of her day.  Coade stone can still be found throughout London – from Bloomsbury to Buckingham Palace – across the UK, and around the world.
