Suzy Henderson is an author of historical fiction and contemporary romance. Her growing body of work explores the courage, complexity, and resilience of women in wartime and beyond. Drawing on true historical events, her stories weave richly imagined narratives that illuminate forgotten heroines and untold moments of the past.

Her debut novel, The Beauty Shop, inspired by the remarkable true story of the RAF Guinea Pig Club and wartime medical innovation, won the B.R.A.G. Medallion and sparked her passion for spotlighting extraordinary figures in history.

Her second novel, Madame Fiocca, was based on the life of SOE agent Nancy Wake, whose fearless resistance work made her one of the most decorated women of WWII.

Suzy’s latest novel, Her Darkest Hour—a historical fantasy with supernatural echoes—will be published on May 8th to coincide with the 80th anniversary of VE Day. Blending the horrors of war with hidden magic and ancient forces, it marks her first foray into the world of historical fantasy fiction.

She is currently working on a new historical novel, due for release later in 2025. Suzy was recently shortlisted for the Retreat West First Chapter competition and is an alumna of Curtis Brown Creative.

Originally from the north of England, Suzy has lived in the southwest and spent time in Scotland before settling in Cumbria with her family. Their forever home is a characterful Victorian sandstone house nestled between Hadrian’s Wall and the Lake District fells—an inspiring landscape once walked by Wordsworth, Coleridge, Beatrix Potter, and Arthur Ransome.

Her writing room faces east, with sweeping views of the Pennines, sheep-dotted fields, and distant farmhouses—an ideal setting for crafting stories. All she needs is peace—and a steady supply of tea. As Churchill once said, “Tea is more important than ammunition.”

When not writing, Suzy enjoys exploring the lakes, forests, and wild fells near her home—or curling up with a good book and Netflix on stormy days.
