I’m an award-winning author, art historian and artist, and have written more than 150 books on art history, history, artists’ lives, architecture, design and practical art, for both adults and children. My aim is always to make art accessible without simplifying it — to help readers look more closely, think more deeply, and enjoy art with greater confidence and understanding.
My areas include all art and design, and many aspects of history! From ancient to contemporary, exploring individual artists and styles as well as new ways of looking and understanding art, as well as guides to drawing and painting. I’m particularly interested in helping readers understand not just what they’re seeing, but why it matters.
