Sumiko Nakano® is a Japanese-born British author of historical fiction and non-fiction. Her writing is deeply rooted in Japanese history, blending meticulous research with evocative storytelling. She is particularly known for exploring the Boshin War, the fall of Aizu, and the legacies of overlooked figures in Japanese history.
Her literary work bridges rigorous historical accuracy with emotional depth and cultural introspection. In addition to her acclaimed novels, Nakano is the author of the upcoming young adult graphic novel Nakano Takeko: The Last Onna-Musha (Rebel Goose, 2027), which reimagines the life and spirit of Japan’s legendary female warrior through her descendant’s voice.
