I’m a novelist and short story writer. After graduating in Modern Chinese Studies from Leeds University I worked as a journalist, and then studied for an MA in Creative Writing. My work has twice won the Yeovil Literary Prize and been shortlisted for the Bridport, Exeter and Manchester fiction prizes. My short fiction has been published by Mslexia, Cinnamon Press and in anthologies including the Mechanics’ Institute Review. I teach creative writing, and review books for Writing in Education magazine. My debut collection, Magpie and Other Stories, was published by Troubador in September 2024 https://troubador.co.uk/bookshop/poetry-short-stories-and-plays/magpie and shortlisted for the 2025 Rubery International Book Award. This year I was delighted to be a judge for the Yeovil Literary Prize and a Reader for the Bath Short Story Award. I’m currently working on a novel with the working title Good Children, drawing on my Irish heritage and set in the UK in 1975.
