I am a translator with over 35 years’ experience. I have won the George Bernard Shaw Prize for Translation from Swedish three times and in 2014 I was awarded the Royal Order of the Polar Star for services to Swedish language and literature.
I have translated books in a wide variety of genres, including children’s stories, memoir, the collected letters of Finland-Swedish writer and Moomin creator Tove Jansson, and the work of many contemporary literary writers.
I am interested in the work of nineteenth and early-twentieth century women writers such as Fredrika Bremer, Victoria Benedictsson, Elin Wägner and the first female Nobel laureate, Selma Lagerlöf. I am the editor of Norvik Press’s series ‘Lagerlöf in English’.
I have also translated crime fiction, from Per Wahlöö via Håkan Nesser’s Barbarotti series to The Girl in the Eagle’s Talons – the seventh Girl with the Dragon Tattoo title – by Karin Smirnoff (2023).
I am a contributor or translations and reviews to Swedish Book Review.
