Sam was the former Programme Leader on two MA in Creative Programmes (Falmouth and Portsmouth Universities) and specialised in Writing for Children and Mystery Fiction.
Sam has been a YA author since first published by Hodder in 2012 with The Repossession of Genie Magee (part one of a three-part series) winner of The Wiral in 2013. Since then, he has written 10 YA novels. Girl with Cat (Blue) a novel set in an alternate London was shortlisted by Writers’ Digest and The Rubery Book Awards.
Recently Sam switched to writing USA based crime mystery novels in 2020 and 2022 ‘We Feel Your Pain – so you don’t have to’ and the sequel ‘The Book of Ashes’. It was fun developing a unique investigative couple and the dynamics between them – not to mention keep the dog alive.
Just published 1.3.24 ‘The Restoration of Ami’, a slightly eccentric road trip novel about an old man searching for one particular part for his ’57 Studebaker Golden Hawk. He picks up a teen hitchhiker and her dog fleeing from a religious sect. Set in East Coast of the USA it taps into the rising tensions in MAGA America.
In between all this he has completed speculative adaptations for TV of ‘Girl with Cat (Blue)’ and WW2 Blitz story ‘The Repercussions of Tomas D’ and the sci-fi story ‘Mission Longshot’- if anyone is looking for ready to go material to shoot. *Sam learned his dialogue skills writing for radio drama many years ago.
