Roy Francis is an award-winning television producer, author, and music industry expert with a distinguished career spanning education, media, and music. A former producer of the BBC’s iconic Songs of Praise, Roy was honoured with the prestigious CBC Gold Award for his acclaimed programme on American evangelist Billy Graham.
In the 1980s, Roy broke new ground with People Get Ready, a pioneering gospel music series aired on Channel 4 in the UK. He went on to launch a successful production company that promoted some of the biggest names in both American and British gospel music, while also nurturing emerging talent across both sides of the Atlantic.
A highlight of his production career came in the 1990s with the landmark recording and filming of Donnie McClurkin Live in London, a concert that became a major success in the gospel music world. His company also played a pivotal role in marketing the Walden Media film Amazing Grace to the UK’s Christian community.
Roy’s media influence extends beyond music. In collaboration with Soul Marketing and Black Entertainment Television (BET), he produced the Getting to Know celebrity event series, featuring high-profile names such as Wendy Williams, hip-hop artist Trey Songz, and actress Tracee Ellis Ross.
Now also an accomplished author, Roy has written three impactful books:
How to Make Gospel Music Work for You – A practical and insightful guide for gospel and independent artists navigating the digital, streaming, and social media landscape.
Windrush and the Black Pentecostal Church in Britain – A personal and authoritative history of how Caribbean migrants in the 1950s and 60s brought their faith and musical traditions to Britain, reshaping the religious landscape.
Windrush: 7 Events That Changed Britain – A compelling exploration of seven pivotal moments in Caribbean migration and how they transformed modern Britain in profound and often unexpected ways.
