I’m the author of four poetry collections published by Carcanet Press, most recently Come Here to This Gate (2024). I’m also a critic for the press, have published several books of literary criticism (mainly on modern and contemporary British poetry), and co-edit the poetry pamphlet publisher New Walk Editions. I am currently leading a project on Lincolnshire folk tales for the Arts and Humanities Research Council, and am writing a (prose) book about folk tales and landscape.

I was born in Belfast in 1981, but grew up mainly in Lincolnshire, and have settled (for now, at least) in Nottingham.

I am Associate Professor of Modern and Contemporary Literature at Nottingham Trent University, where I lead the MA Creative Writing, supervise PhD students, and teach on the BA courses in English and Creative Writing. I’ve also mentored poets independently.
