I’ve written over 30 hillwalking guidebooks (The Cairngorms, Loch Lomond & the Trossachs, The Jurassic Coast, The Southern Uplands) and general outdoor books (The Book of the Bivvy, Blencathra: Portrait of a Mountain, Granite and Grit geology for hillwalkers and climbers) all illustrated with my own photos. The areas I know best are the Lake District, the Scottish Highlands, and the Southern Uplands, but I have hiked through mountain ranges all over Europe and the US.

I’m currently writing a continuing series on Classic Mountain Literature for the UKhillwalking website, now extending over 40 books and 800 years of hillwalking and mountaineering. I post a weekly short essay on all matters mountainous on Substack.
