The Reverend Dr Robert Jaggs-Fowler is currently a Junior Visiting Fellow at St John’s College, Durham University. Ordained as an Anglican Priest, he is a retired General Medical Practitioner, a Commander of the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem (CStJ), a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA), a Freeman of the City of London, and a Liveryman in the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries of London. He holds medical degrees from the University of London, a Master of Laws degree in Medical Law and Ethics (De Montfort University, Leicester), a Master of Arts degree in Spirituality, Theology and Health (Durham University), and is a Doctor of Philosophy (Durham University). He is a Fellow of the Royal College of General Practitioners (FRCGP).

Robert was formerly the senior partner in a medical practice in Barton upon Humber, North Lincolnshire, and, until 2018, the Medical Director & Director of Primary Care for the North Lincolnshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), fulfilling the roles of Named Doctor for Safeguarding (Children & Adults), CCG Champion for the Armed Forces & Veterans, and was a GP Appraiser.

Robert has been a member of the St John Ambulance for over 50 years. Formerly a County Commander (Humberside), Assistant Chief Commander (England), Acting Chief Medical Officer (England), a Trustee for the Ambulance & Priory, a member of the Ceremonial Group for the Priory of England & the Islands at St John’s Gate, London, he completed his service as the County Chaplain for the Order of St John in Lincolnshire.

A former Major in the British Army, he served with the Royal Army Medical Corps for 11 years. He is a member of the Royal Society of Literature, The Poetry Society, and the Society of Authors. Robert is a keen supporter of the arts and is currently President of the championship level Barton Community Band.

An award winning writer, Robert is a former columnist for two regional newspapers, and has published two collections of poetry: ‘A Journey with Time’ (2008) and ‘On Quarry Beach’ (2017); two academic texts: ‘The Law & Medicine: Friend or Nemesis?’ (2013) and ‘The Healing Enigma: The Physician-Priest in the 21st Century’ (2018), and a novel, ‘Lamplight in the Shadows’ (2015).
