An entrepreneurial career prompted me to write a number of books for people starting or growing a business or social enterprise. In 2019 I stopped taking on paid work and went to the University of East Anglia, graduating a year later with an MA in Biography & Creative Non-Fiction. This was my first experience of university and an truly inspiring twelve months.

My dissertation was an early draft of the first section of my latest book, Where are the Fellows who Cut the Hay which was published early April 2024. If you’re familiar with the work of oral historian George Ewart Evans, you’ll have a sense of what the book is about. 100 years ago, everybody lived happily without using lots of oil, coal or gas, so it’s no surprise that as we strive to achieve ‘net-zero’, many almost forgotten ways are returning, as my book reveals.

I’m trying hard to write full time, but am finding it impossible to stop having good ideas, that usually lead to interesting adventures. For example I’m planning the first Leiston Book Festival, which will take place on 7th September 2024 and feature six non-fiction authors who have written books about our changing environment.

I welcome opportunities to speak about my work, particularly with schools where I hope to inspire young people to write creatively.
