I have translated works by leading Italian writers such as Giacomo Leopardi (Zibaldone), Umberto Eco (The Prague Cemetery, Numero Zero, Chronicles of a Liquid Society), Roberto Calasso (Ardor, The Art of the Publisher, The Ruin of Kasch, The Unnamable Present, The Celestial Hunter), Carlo Emilio Gadda (The Experience of Pain), Paolo Volponi (The Javelin Thrower), Antonio Moresco (Distant Light, Clandestinity), Stefano Massini (The Lehman Trilogy, The Book of Nonexistent Words) and Marcello Fois (Valse Triste). My translation of Pope Francis’s autobiography Hope was published in January 2025.
I have been shortlisted for the Independent Foreign Fiction Prize 2012, John Florio Prize 2016 (commended translation), ALTA Italian Prose in Translation Award (2017) and International Dublin Literary Award (2018).
My translations of Italian contemporary poets have appeared in many publications including “Journal of Italian Translation,” “Nuovi argomenti,” “Testo a fronte,” “Almost Island,” and in anthologies published by Gradiva Publications, Federazione Unitaria Italiana Scrittori and shortly by Toronto University Press.
I was on the panel of judges for the American Literary Translators Association 2020 Italian Prose in Translation Award.
I moderate week-long Italian<>English ViceVersa workshops with Anna Rusconi at Villa Garbald, Switzerland.
I have been a member of the Associazione Italiana Traduttori e Interpreti since 2009, an honorary member since 2021, and a member of Strade-Slc Italy.
