I am a Gloucestershire-based bestselling author of crime fiction and thrillers. My titles with HarperCollins are The Perfect Neighbours, The Good Teacher and The Roommates. I also write the Gloucestershire Crime Series for Hobeck Books. The first two titles are Her Deadly Friend and Her Charming Man.
An Ordinary House, under the pseudonym of Rae Starling, will be published by Hera Books in September 2026.
I won Writing Magazine’s Crime Short Story competition and have been shortlisted or placed in various competitions including the Bristol Short Story Prize. My stories have appeared in My Weekly and the Saucy Shorts series by Accent Press.
As well as being a judge in the quarterly Henshaw Press Short Story Competitions, I provide bespoke critiques for Henshaw’s short story critique service. I also give author talks and run creative writing workshops in schools, libraries and other community venues.
For 2025, I am one of the judges for The Vaisey Trust, a charitable trust that awards funding to reading projects in public libraries and state schools in Gloucestershire.
Prior to becoming a full-time author, I worked as a chartered librarian and manager in public libraries and school libraries. I have written for professional library journals and monographs.
I hold a PhD in Creative Writing from the University of Birmingham.
My agent is Laura Heathfield at Greenstone Literary Agency.
