Background
I am a screenwriter with an MA in Scriptwriting who accidentally became a short film producer because it was the quickest and most fun way to bring my short scripts to life. The most successful of these short films ‘Rapunzel: The Blonde Years’ which has played in dozens of film festivals around the world and which became a viral hit on YouTube.
In 2008, I accidentally became a traditionally published author when my screenplay treatment for ‘Petticoat Rebellion: The Anna Parnell Story’ found its way to The Mercier Press, who commissioned it as an historical biography. I still believe Anna’s extraordinary life would make a blockbuster period drama.
I also created the world’s first online, real-time, human rights docu-drama, ‘Osman’s Run’. Osman’s Run, which aired on Bebo, was produced for Irish NGO Trócaire by Kairos Communications Limited as part of the 2009 Lenten Campaign. Trócaire won a prestigious public relations award for ‘Best Integrated Campaign’ that same year.
‘Four Lives: Legend of the Warrior’s Curse’ was an experiment in self-publishing a novelette on Amazon.
From 2013-2019 I managed a partnership poetry project between Poetry Ireland and Trócaire. I was one of the judging panel for the final five years of the annual all-Ireland poetry competition which resulted from this partnership.
Trivia
My first love is not in fact history, but science fiction. I wrote a spec five-act television script for the final season of ‘Star Trek:Voyager’, which I posted to Paramount Pictures (back in the days when you had to post things). It eventually made its way back to me, with the International Reply Coupon stapled to the envelope.
