For over 20 years I worked as a professional editorial and portrait photographer, the last seven years of which, I worked in the world of the media. During this time, quite by accident, I was introduced to beekeeping and to my surprise fell in love with the honeybees. It wasn’t long before I learned the extent to which our planet relies on them and what incredible little creatures they are. The more knowledge I acquired the more I wanted to tell everyone. And so, I put down my camera and wrote my first children’s book for children aged 7 – 9 years – Betsie Valentine And The Honeybees – (https://mdthequeenbee.co.uk/shopbooks/betsie-valentine-and-the-honeybees-wtl9d).
Betsie grew up, alongside her readers and I wrote the second book for children aged 9 – 12 years – Betsie Valentine And The Honourable Honeybee – https://mdthequeenbee.co.uk/shopbooks/betsie-valentine-and-the-honourable-honeybee).
I’ve gone on to become a public speaker, travelling all over the UK giving talks about the honeybees in schools, to communities and at events. The intention behind my books and talks is to share my passion for the honeybees by helping broaden and deepen children and adult’s understanding of them. Share the world wide concerns for their decline, which ultimately would have an effect on our ecology and environment, and look at what we, as a society can learn from a successful colony of honeybees.
