Matthew Teller’s most recent book Nine Quarters of Jerusalem: A New Biography of the Old City, published by Profile Books (London) and Other Press (New York), was named a Book of the Year by the Telegraph, and called “engaging” (FT) and “highly perceptive” (Observer). Raja Shehadeh said that it “reveals Jerusalem better than any other book written about the city.” It has been translated into several languages, including Arabic. Matthew writes for the BBC, Guardian, Independent, Times, Financial Times and other global media. He produces and presents documentaries for BBC Radio 4 and World Service, and has reported for “From Our Own Correspondent” from around the world. His collection Quite Alone: Journalism from the Middle East came out in 2020, and he is the author of several guides for the travel publisher Rough Guides. Matthew has spoken widely at literary festivals and public events about his writing in the UK and internationally, and in 2022 completed an invitational fifteen-date speaking tour coast-to-coast around the US.
