Matt Zullo is an author, historian, and screenwriter specialising in twentieth-century military, intelligence, and cryptologic history. He is the author of The U.S. Navy’s On-the-Roof Gang: Prelude to War and War in the Pacific, which document the largely forgotten pioneers of American naval communications intelligence. Both volumes received Gold Medals from the Military Writers Society of America and were selected for the Commander, U.S. Tenth Fleet Information Warfare Reading List.

His work has appeared in Naval History and Cryptolog. He is currently developing Madame X, a narrative biography of pioneering U.S. Navy cryptanalyst Agnes Meyer Driscoll, whose work helped establish the American naval codebreaking tradition before the Second World War. He is also writing The On-the-Roof Gang, a historical television drama based on the declassified true story of the Navy radio intercept operators who hunted the Imperial Japanese Navy through the airwaves, and Stories from the Roof, a series of narrative nonfiction stories recovering the experiences of individual members of the early naval cryptologic community.

Matt served in U.S. Navy cryptology and later worked for the National Security Agency. He holds an M.S. in Strategic Intelligence from the National Intelligence University and is completing an M.A. in Screenwriting at the University of York. His work combines archival research, lived professional experience, and narrative storytelling to recover overlooked people and stories from the history of intelligence.
