I live in Wales and translate from Polish. I was Free Word Centre’s last Translator in Residence (2015-2016) and now combine translation with negotiating publishing contracts for Pan Macmillan and writing. I served three years on the Translators Association committee.

My translation of Marcin Wicha’s Things I Didn’t Throw Out, published by Daunt Books, won the 2022 TA First Translation Prize and a PEN Translates award, and was shortlisted for the 2022 Found in Translation Award. In November 2023 Weronika Murek and Gosia Wdowik’s play Girls, with subtitles in my translation, was shown at Festival Norma in Prague. My previous publications include a co-translation of the New York Times bestseller, Renia Spiegel’s Renia’s Diary: A Young Girl’s Life in the Shadow of the Holocaust and of Janusz Korczak’s selected works, How to Love a Child. I have also done poetry translation and video subtitling work.

I have had many translations published online, notably in Words Without Borders, Przekrój, Exchanges and the New Books from Poland catalogue published by the Polish Book Institute. My literary criticism and writing on translation have been published by Asymptote, The Glasgow Review of Books, The Linguist, In Other Words and elsewhere. I have organised, chaired and/or interpreted literary events with a range of eminent writers and translators – including Olga Tokarczuk, Edmund de Waal, Deborah Levy, Jacek Dehnel, Jen Calleja, Anton Hur, and Antonia Lloyd-Jones – given masterclasses and delivered keynotes.
