Previously published as a children’s book illustrator and cartoonist, her work appearing in books, magazines and newspapers, a cartoon collection, One Woman’s Eye, published by Virgin Books, she swapped dip pen for iMac to work with words alone.
Since then, numerous short stories have been placed in various competitions, including long and short listings for the Bridport Prize, the Fish Short Story Prize and the BBC National Short Story Award, and published in Unthology 1 (Unthank Books 2010), Something Was There . . , the Asham Award-winning ghost story collection (Virago 2011), Unthology 5 (Unthank 2014), Appetites: stories of love, sex and death, a 19-story debut collection (Matador 2019), and The Fairlight Book of Short Stories: volume 1 (Fairlight Books 2020).
Online: Let Her Go was Seren Book’s Short Story of the Month in 2017, and Running Away and Bird Brains (previously shortlisted by Bridport) were published on Fairlight’s site.
Rosa Felicia, one of five linked stories in an unpublished novella-length, coming out collection, was longlisted by Bridport in 2022, and The Last Time I Saw Richard (unknowingly drafted in the 50th anniversary year of Joni Mitchells iconic album Blue) was shortlisted by Fish in March 2024.
