I’m an author (and editor). My publications include fiction and non-fiction for children, with subjects ranging from time travel and prehistory to biographies and the arts. I’m passionate about literacy and I love writing books that challenge readers’ expectations, inspire new thinking and bring facts to life. Many of my books are sold around the world.

I live and write in the southwest of England, a stone’s throw from the sea. I campaign for public libraries – to keep them open, well-stocked and professionally run because the’re invaluable in offering equal opportunities, free books, self-education and inspiration for all.
