Originally from Chicago, Leah Janeczko has lived in Milan since 1991 and for thirty years has been an Italian-to-English translator of fiction for all ages.

For two decades, until 2013, she worked closely with Disney Italy, which in 2000 became the headquarters of their global magazines activities, responsible for developing 70% of Disney’s worldwide comics content.

Her recent translations include Glowrushes (Lo stralisco) by Roberto Piumini, who has been nominated three times for the Hans Christian Andersen Award; At the Wolf’s Table / The Women at Hitler’s Table (Le assaggiatrici) by Rosella Postorino, winner of the 2018 Campiello Prize; and Lost on Me (Niente di Vero) by Veronica Raimo, for which she was longlisted for the 2024 International Booker Prize alongside the author and shortlisted for the 2024 John Florio Prize.

In 2024, Leah curated the Global Literature in Libraries Initiative’s first Italian Lit Month blog, which featured 50 articles written by over 30 Italian-to-English literary translators.

In addition to translating Italian literature, she also writes English lyrics for rock bands, including eight songs on The Elephant Man’s 2022 debut album, Sinners, produced by Steve Lyon, and six for their forthcoming second album, including the newly released single, “I’m Ready (to go)”.
