Originally from Basildon, Essex, Laz now lives in Rutland, England, with her partner, Tim, and two rescue border collies. She loves playing the handpan in the forest, going for long walks, and people-watching from coffee shop windows. Finch’s Arms is her debut novel, and she is currently working on a thriller titled Marzipan, about a man who spends his retirement pretending to be deaf.
Review quotes:
“A real ride… You won’t expect where it goes next!” (Rose Cleary, author of How To Be A French Girl)
“Laz Newton’s audacious contribution to absurdist literature, is a wild romp through the many different underbellies of British life and also a canny, fast-moving dissection of the popular culture: celebrity TV, home shopping, the decay of pub life, poverty, drug abuse, and despair. Outrageous at times and funny!” (Rachel Callaghan, author of Under Water, recently won the 2025 NYC Big Book Award)
“Finch’s Arms is the kind of outsider satire that leans fully into its perversity and leaves behind a haunting atmosphere that stays with you long after you’ve finished.” (Faber & Faber)
