I am a retired academic and health researcher. I qualified as an applied physiologist in the early 1980s, gaining my PhD from the University of Southampton. Later on, I became a NCT childbirth educator and life coach, further developing my interest in stress management, nutrition and well-being.
I was privileged to have had an amazing and varied career as a Senior Lecturer. The focus for my teaching with healthcare professionals was how the human body works and what happens when part – or all – of it goes wrong. I also held the role of programme manager for several different multi-disciplinary programme teams and loved the challenge of working with colleagues across faculties and different universities (as external examiner) learning much from them about their specialist interests – which varied from creative arts through medieval history to environmental science. Fascinating!
My work in the field of stress management and well-being led to Fellowship of the International Stress Management Association (ISMA) and ISMA Federation International Award (2023). I’m a full member of the Physiological Society and a founding member of Biosciences for Nurse education (BiNE). My writing includes journal articles, science writing for various charities and contributions to textbooks.
I’m currently working on two narrative non-fiction books and learning about podcasting. Always happy to collaborate, so please feel free to contact me.
