Basic bio

Kymm Coveney was born in Boston, earned a BA in Modern English and Spanish Literature (Wheaton College, Massachusetts) in 1981, and has lived in Spain since the 1982 World Cup. She is a freelance writer and translator, as well as habitual translation slam moderator for MET (Mediterranean Editors and Translators) and retired co-host of Barcelona’s multilingual poetry recital series, PoémameBCN.

She is also a member of ALTA (American Literary Translators Association), PEN America, and the New England Poetry Club.

She often reads with the Out of the Wings collective, where her translation of Tamara Gutiérrez’s play Historia de un monstruo was featured as a table read after being underwritten by SGAE (Spanish Society of Authors and Publishers).

Writing

She has been cultivating a poetry community and practice, and is negotiating to have her translation of Mónica Ojeda’s collection Historia de la leche published in the US in 2026.

She has translated work by Tomás Sánchez Bellocchio, Carlos Vitale, Alejandra Kamiya, Armando Romero, Óscar David López published in Rio Grande Review,Words and Worlds, Sahitto Literary Magazine, Palabras Errantes, Surreal Poetics, and Glasgow Review of Books.

She often collaborates with Barcelona-based Argentinean artist Marcela Jardón, most notably for her DVD Intangibles. Translation and revision of haiku. Original haiku and photographs by Marcela Jardón.

Awards

Honorable Mention in the 2022 Diana Der-Hovanessian Prize for translation from the New England Poetry Club.

Highly Commended in the 2018 Prole Laureate poetry competition.
