Based in Berlin since 1996, I translate contemporary German writers including Inka Parei, Olga Grjasnowa and Judith Hermann. My translations of Clemens Meyer have been twice nominated for the International Booker Prize and won me the Straelen Translation Prize.
I have taught literary translation in New York, New Delhi and Norwich and co-host a monthly translation lab in Berlin. I have also been a judge for the Schlegel-Tieck Translation Prize, the HKW Internationaler Literaturpreis and the Dublin Literary Award. Having co-founded the Dead Ladies Show events series and podcast, I also enjoy public appearances outside the realm of translation.
