Kathy Shuker

Writer of character-driven mysteries
Independent / self-published author, Novelist

Kathy trained as a physiotherapist but a back injury forced her to change career and she susequently studied design then worked as a freelance artist. A keen reader, she started writing  her own stories and quickly became hooked on that particular creative process, publishing her first novel in 2014. Three more standalone novels followed, each a multi-layered mystery. She is particularly intrigued by families, by the stories they tell each other and especially by the secrets they keep – or indeed the tales they fabricate to hide uncomfortable truths. Two of these books have been longlisted for the DLF writing prize.

During the first lockdown of the Covid pandemic, Kathy started a series, slightly lighter in tone: the Dechansay Bright Mysteries, set in the world of art restoration and there are now three standalone stories in this series.

When not writing, Kathy still maintains an interest in art, is passionate about nature and the environment and is a keen singer and musician. Sadly, despite years of trying, mastery of the piano, guitar and fiddle remains as elusive as ever.
