Background
I have over 40 years full time experience spanning work as a classroom teacher, advisory teacher, Educational and Child Psychologist, trainer, supervisor and therapist. I have a passion for educational research which has enabled me to write journal articles, educational books and programmes in the areas of under achievement and social, emotional and mental health. These resources have been published for use predominantly by teachers and teaching assistants to address the needs of children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities and those children who have had adverse childhood experiences, such as trauma and neglect. Most recently my focus has been on creating a resource to promote language and literacy skills as indicated below.
Current project
I am the author of the Sad Dog Language-Literacy Programme which combines language/literacy teaching through the use of 30 therapeutic stories to motivate children aged 6-9 who have not yet mastered reading and writing skills despite accessing generic phonics teaching in primary schools. My programme has been successfully trialled with small groups of children in six mainstream schools to demonstrate impact. The research data shows the programme is highly effective in improving children’s reading accuracy, comprehension and spelling skills. I am presently seeking publication of my Sad Dog Language-Literacy Programme. I would be delighted to link up with any other educational writers who could support me towards achieving this goal.
