Hi! I’m Jules Scheele (he/him), a freelance illustrator, comics artist and live scribe based in Glasgow, Scotland. I specialise in graphic storytelling that translates and brings a human touch to difficult concepts, especially across academic and third sector projects.
I am best known for my work with Dr. Meg-John Barker on ICON Book’s bestselling Graphic Guide trilogy, including Queer: A Graphic History, Gender: A Graphic Guide, and Sexuality: A Graphic Guide. Additionally I illustrated American Politics: A Graphic Guide with Laura Locker, also through ICON Books. I have contributed illustrations to Bimini Bon Boulash’s A Drag Queen’s Guide To Life from Penguin Books, and am currently working on a graphic novel adaptation of Virginia Woolf’s Orlando, out through Avery Hill Publishing in 2026.
My personal illustration work consists of comics, zines and (mostly risographed) prints; it’s heavily influenced by my interests in queer art, pop culture, subcultures, camp, fashion illustration, autobio/alternative comics and manga, propaganda and pop art, grassroots politics and DIY zine culture. I am also available to lead workshops on zine and comics making.
