My writing is omnivorous. I write in both English and Spanish, sometimes mixing the two, to look at issues such as translingualism, migration, geopolitics and ecopoetics. I am interested in reading books that transform me, and I aim for my writing to do the same. I am the author of several books of poetry and have received accolades such as the Poetry Book Society Choice and the PEN Translates award. I perform regularly at literary festivals across Europe, Asia, and Latin America.

My approach to translation is about bringing the work into a clarity that is as vivid as the original, while resisting domestication of the text. I aim to recreate the style and zing of the author’s voice, without sanitizing it or trying to make it more palatable to an English-speaking reader, while still resonating. The best feedback I have had on my work as a translator is, “Your translations make me feel alive.”
