Joanna Miller was raised in Cambridge and studied English at Exeter College, Oxford. After a decade working in education, she set up an award-winning poetry gift business. She has recently graduated from Oxford again, with a diploma in creative writing. She lives with her husband and three children in Hertfordshire. 

Joanna’s debut novel The Eights will be published by Fig Tree in April 2025. Set in 1920, it tells the story of the first women to study alongside men at Oxford in the shadow of the Great War. The Eights will be also published in North America by Putnam Books and in multiple European territories.

Joanna is a writer in residence at Gladstone’s Library in 2025.
