Writing
I write contemporary women’s fiction and romcoms under the names Jeevani Charika and Rhoda Baxter. My books have been shortlisted for a variety of awards, including the Romantic Novelists Association contemporary and romcom awards, the Emma awards (US) and others.
I have 15 published books, under both names, with more to come. While my newer books are all traditionally published, some of my older books are now independently published following rights reversion.
Tutoring
I have been a reader for the RNA’s New Writer’s Scheme for over a decade. I also offer manuscript critiques and mentoring to new writers, particularly to writers of colour who are trying to enter the romance and commercial women’s fiction markets. I teach creative writing workshops.
I am a founder and tutor for Fiction Tutors Debut Author Club – a group for newly agented, newly contracted or newly published authors where they can find advice and support related to publishing, as well as meet fellow new authors.
Talks and workshops
Canva: I am a Canvassador (Canva Ambassador) and have a YouTube channel teaching authors how to use Canva to make marketing images. I also run workshops on how to use Canva (at basic and at advanced level, depending on the requirements of the audience).
IP for authors: I have a day job working in university intellectual property, which involves reading a lot of IP licences. This led me to write a book about IP contracts for authors. I give talks about what to look at before signing publishing contracts, aimed at newer authors entering commercial fiction contracts (particularly in digital first publishing).
Writing: I also give talks about writing novels.
