In non-fiction, I write mainly on environmental and nature themes, with a special interest in human relationships with other animals. I’m a regular contributor to the journal Dark Mountain and my work has also been published by Sentient Media and The Huffington Post. Currently the anthology North Country (Saraband Publishing, 2022) features my essay ‘Crossings’ and the Earth 2.0 anthology includes my piece ‘Fairbourne’. For my non-fiction work I’ve been a finalist in the inaugural Future Places Prize for Environmental Literature (UK, 2021) and the Van der Mey Prize (USA, 2022) as well as the Nottingham Writers’ Studio’s George Floyd Prize (UK, 2022). My work has also been published by XR Writers and in 2022-2023 I was very proud to be the Bat Conservation Trust‘s Batty Laureate.

In fiction, my piece ‘Salt Water’ won the Feminist Futures Prize in the Roswell Awards (USA, 2021) and was published by Artemis in the US. I’m currently working on a novel that spans three time periods while exploring women’s connection to the land.

I only write poetry occasionally but in 2021 my poem ‘Toads During Lockdown’ was a finalist at the Shepton Mallet Poetry Festival.

I love to teach writing workshops, and have delivered creative writing workshops for The Silk Museum (Macclesfield), The Potteries Museum (Stoke-on-Trent) and B Arts’ Climate Cafe among others.

I’m available for speaker opportunities in schools and colleges, writers’ groups and reading groups and I would also love to run creative writing workshops in settings such as prisons.

Outside of writing, I live in Cheshire with my family of humans and dogs.
